Hanh holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College of the Ivy League, a Teaching Certificate from the B.C. Ministry of Education, and an A.M.I. Elementary Diploma. Additionally, she has completed training in the Orton-Gillingham method for teaching structured literacy to students with dyslexia as well as Master's-level coursework in psychological counselling and assessment. As a life-long learner herself, Hanh is currently working towards a M.Ed. in Counselling Psychology at the University of British Columbia. She integrates various counselling techniques into her lessons, giving rise to the term "Therapeutic Tutoring."

Born and raised in California, Hanh is now proudly a dual American-Canadian citizen. In her spare time, she loves to explore new restaurants around town, shop for vintage clothing at thrift stores, crochet while listening to podcasts, swing dance to live jazz music, and have lengthy discussions about personality theories, such as Myers-Briggs personality types. Oh! She also spends her summers learning French in Montreal, her home away from home. Cycling along the canal, eating smoked meat and poutine every week...it's heaven!

The services Hanh currently provides are Montessori tutoring, Orton-Gillingham tutoring, and academic coaching. She also conducts intake interviews with new students and offers complimentary phone consultations for those who are interested to learn more.

Cassie c.

Teacher on Wheels

Hello my name is Cassie! I am originally from Ireland and received my Bachelor in Education from Trinity College Dublin in 2014. I have almost seven years of full time teaching experience both in Ireland and Vancouver. Throughout my years, I have taught in a wide range of educational settings, including special education, learning support and as a mainstream class teacher. I am very passionate about teaching and I strive to give every child the confidence and support to reach their academic and personal potential. I believe in teaching to children’s strengths and learning styles and to help them to become the agents of their own learning and success in their time in school and beyond. Dyslexia is an area I have quiet a bit of experience and passion about. As both my younger brothers have dyslexia, I spent much of my childhood helping them with homework and assignments; it is the reason I wanted to become a teacher in the first place! I also did a placement in a specialized classroom for students with dyslexia, which was an amazing and very informative experience. Given the right strategies and supports, children with learning differences can be just as successful academically as any other student!

I teach high school Math, English, French, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, specializing in Chemistry and Biology since I have a degree in Biochemistry. I will also make strong efforts to improve student’s work habits and studying strategies that I learned the hard way, over the course of my academic journeys. Julie T.

Tutor on Wheels

My name is Julie and I am pursuing a career in education. Education is something that is very important to me, as it is for many people. Specifically, the access to education is something that I am passionate about. I believe in equity and opportunity for every student, regardless of their race, gender, sex, or socioeconomic backgrounds. I am grateful for the opportunities that were given to me to be in the place where I am able to help students create a space for safe learning. I grew up in East Van so many of my classmates did not have the same safe learning experiences that I want to create. I am aware that every individual student has their own learning style and what fits with them best will vary. I do not think that every method will suit every student as there may be learning challenges that are apparent or even hidden.

I strive to create an environment that challenges the student while also encouraging them to do better. For example, giving the answer right away is something that would hinder their ability to problem solve, so by giving them hints and leading them to the right direction will help them with long term memory. Many students feel the pressure to be at the same level as their peers, but that is something very difficult to achieve. This would result in a student not reaching out for extra help or expressing that they have a problem with the material. I think it is important to communicate with the student to make sure that they understand the material in a sufficient manner before moving on to the next obstacle. Building a professional relationship with a student is also crucial to the academic success of the student. Making sure that boundaries are set and that trust is solidified to make the tutoring experience more enjoyable. I want all students to succeed, even if they do not seem interested in school work at all. Overall, I want to try my best to make the student feel comfortable, challenged, and that they learned something at the end of the day.
